A life long Richmond resident, Carol attended Blundell, Ferris, Cook, Palmer and Richmond High Schools. Carol has three children who have attended Woodward, McRoberts and McNair High School. Carol has over 30 years involvement with the Richmond school system. As a parent Carol volunteered her professional services whenever asked and helped with school activities. Carol has worked as a community activist on the following:

GARDEN CITY LANDS COALITION

Over the last 5 years Carol has worked hard as a member of the Garden City Lands Coalition to save the 136 acres in the City centre from development. Her work has included creating and donating signs, banners, and a full media display for the purpose of informing the public about the plan to remove the lands from the ALR. Carol has helped organize fundraisers and participated in open houses, community events and outreach programs for public interest.

SHELLMONT NEIGHBOURHOOD

Carol worked for 5 years to save the Shellmont neighborhood from a series of invasive townhouse developments. Through many presentations, petitions and unrelenting pressure the campaign was successful. The initial townhouse and City proposals had very high density and dictated that all of the traffic was to travel through the neighborhood.  The consequence being a dramatic increase in traffic in front of the elementary school and throughout the neighborhood.  Carol brokered a compromise solution with the developer.  That proposal was jointly presented to the City Council, and included an interior road between the town home complexes along Steveston.  This agreement lead to the City re-evaluating, and ultimately changing, the arterial road policy and lane bylaw policy for Richmond to reflect my progress.  Ultimately this preserved many other neighborhoods in Richmond.

IRONWOOD PUB

The proposed pub was against the City bylaws so the City changed the bylaws! Carol fought the pub because public safety was the major issue. In the end, the pub was not built and Carol is still working to re-instate the original pub bylaws.

TEMPLE EXPANSION on number 5 Road

The proposed 11 storey high new temple was far too large for the neighborhood so Carol asked the temple to abide by the height requirements in the City bylaws and with her recommendation and other neighborhood influences they withdrew their development application.
As a school trustee Carol will represent the people of Richmond with the same involvement she has as a community activist.  Carol will serve the community as an advocate for the parents and students through regular consultation. Carol’s wish is to bridge the gap between the School Board and the public.
