Facilities Department
The Facilities Department is responsible for:
• the purchase of sites for future schools
• the planning and construction of new schools
• the planning and construction of major additions and/or renovations to existing schools
• the seismic upgrading of existing facilities
Funding for new schools, major renovations and additions (costing over $1.5 million) is provided by the Ministry of Education through the Capital Plan.
A Five Year Capital Plan is prepared annually, and submitted to the Ministry of Education requesting funding for future projects. In order to prepare the Capital Plan, the projected enrollments for the district are calculated over a 10 year period, and the condition of existing schools are evaluated.
Minor renovations and additions (costing less than $1.5 million) are funded through an Annual Facility Grant by the Ministry of Education.
For information on the funding of new schools and additions and/or renovations, refer to Capital Projects.
For information on the Seismic Upgrading Program and the earthquake preparedness of the School District's buildings refer to Seismic Mitigation.
