Student Placement
Students in Kindergarten to Grade Seven Early French Immersion, Grade Six a Late French Immersion or Kindergarten to Grade Seven Montessori who register after February 3rd, 2012 will be placed at a nearby school by the district's Student Placement Officer if space is not available.

Catchment students (English) who register after June 15th, 2012 will be placed at a nearby school by the district’s Student Placement Officer if space is not available at the catchment school.

Student Placement Process
This section applies only to a placed student - that is, a catchment student who is newly arrived in the district, is not able to attend their catchment school due to lack of available space and facilities in that school, and is placed by the district Student Placement Officer or the Superintendent’s designate at a nearby school.

Once a student has been placed at a nearby school, the placed school will contact the parent or legal guardian and make arrangements for the student to enroll in the school.

Transportation of Placed Students
No provision will be made by the School District for transportation of a student placed by the district if the distance from the student’s home to the school of attendance is within the walk limits established by the Ministry of Education [4.2 kilometers for elementary students and 4.8 kilometers for secondary students].

School Placement List
Schools establish a School Placement List for any newly arrived catchment student who registers between June 16th and the end of the first week in July.  The names of these students will be included on the District Placement List established at the District Registration Center during July and August.

Priority of Students on School Placement List
Any student on a School Placement List will be enrolled in a nearby school using a priority based on the date and time of their registration at the catchment school or District Registration Center during July and August.

Return of Placed Students to Catchment School
A placed student may return to their catchment school earlier than September of the next school year if space and facilities become available at the school during the school year.

For secondary school students, due to timetabling considerations, students will normally return to their catchment schools at the beginning of the next school year.

When space becomes available at a placed student’s catchment school, the student has the right to either remain at their placed school for the remainder of their elementary or secondary school career, or return to their catchment school.
