Transferring to a Non-Catchment School
Transfer Process:
This section only applies to a transfer student who wishes to attend a non catchment school or district program and whose eligibility to enroll depends on applying by the district deadline and the availability of space and facilities at the requested school.

Parents may request permission for their children to attend schools outside their catchment area using the following district forms available from district schools:

(1) SA 23 - For Richmond Resident Students
(2) SA 73 - For NON Richmond Resident Students [Out of District]

When approval to transfer is given by the school principal, parents will be expected to assume responsibility for transportation, or any additional costs incurred by the transfer.

Transfer Dates and Deadlines
The earliest that transfer applications will be received by schools for the 2012-2013 school year is January 23rd, 2012.  The parent should have the Transfer Application Form first initialed by their catchment school before submitting it to the requested school.

Applications received BY March 1st, 2012 will be approved to attend the requested school in accordance with the priorities in the Regulation 501.8-R, paragraph 5.a, 1st: catchment, 2nd: Richmond resident transfer students, and 3rd: Non Richmond resident transfer students, on a "first come, first serve" basis.

Applications received AFTER March 1st, 2012 may be considered by the requested school using the priorities listed in Regulation 501.8-R, paragraph 5.f. (4) only if they meet one of the following criteria:
(1)  sibling approved to attend the requested school or will be attending the school at the same time
(2)  daycare (elementary)
(3)  two or more related courses not offered at their catchment school (secondary) or
(4)  unique circumstances which warrant special consideration by the schools' principal

Richmond Resident Students:
Richmond resident students who are approved to attend a non-catchment school are not required to submit a transfer form every year in order to continue at their school.  A Richmond resident transfer student is only required to apply to a requested school once - that is, when they wish to attend that school for the first time.  Once the student has been approved to attend, further transfer applications are not required.

Non District Students
A non district student wishing to enroll in a Richmond school or district program must first submit an SA 73 Transfer Application Form for Non Richmond Residents to the requested school and then register at the requested school or district program.

To continue in a Richmond school or program, it is required that all non district students submit an SA 73 Transfer Form on an annual basis by March 1st, 2011 to their requested school.

Parent Notification
Schools will mail letters to the parents/legal guardians of transfer applicants by March 9th, 2012 advising them of the status of their child’s application.
