Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must successfully complete 80 credits minimum in Gr 10, 11 and 12 courses.  These credits and requirements comprise of the following:


48 required course credits
28 minimum elective course credits
Graduation Transitions – 4 credits
Minimum 16 credits at the Grade 12 level including a Grade 12 Language Arts course
Five Graduation Program exams in Grades 10 to 12

REQUIREMENT ONE:  Required Course Credits = 48 credits  


A Language Arts 10
4 credits
A Language Arts 11 & 12   (different options)
8 credits
Social Studies 10
4 credits
Social Studies 11 or Civics Studies 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12
4 credits
A Math 10
4 credits
A Math 11 or 12 (different Pathways)
4 credits
Science 10
4 credits
Science 11 or 12 (different options)
4 credits
Physical Education 10
4 credits
Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills 10, 11 or 12   (can be 2 credits from each)
4 credits
Planning 10
4 credits


REQUIREMENT TWO: Graduation Exams
Five Graduation Program Exams in Grades 10 - 12 are required.  They include:


Grade 10 Language Arts
Grade 10 Math
Grade 10 Science
Grade 12 Language Arts
Grade 11 Social Studies  
        
All other Grade 12 provincial exams are optional.  Where these exams aren’t taken, the final mark is 100% based on class work.  Some Grade 12 exams will be required by post secondary institutions and for scholarship eligibility.


REQUIREMENT THREE:  Students must also earn at least 28 Elective credits

All BC secondary school students who are enrolled in Grade 10, 11 or 12 as of September 1, 2007, and beyond must demonstrate they have met the following requirements for:

Personal Health - maintain a personal health plan and participate in at least 80 hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity, in addition to PE10.
Community Connections - participate in at least 30 hours of work experience and/or community service and describe what was learned.
Career and Life - complete a transition plan and present significant accomplishments.
