International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is open to all students in Richmond. It is located at Richmond Secondary and involves a variety of courses in most the academic subject areas. These are offered at the standard level or the higher level (resulting in additional credit because of first year university content). Also included is a Theory of Knowledge course which all IB students are encouraged to take. Some students select a full slate of IB courses in order to obtain the distinguished International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Richmond students are eligible to take the program, either as Certificate students (each student decides how many courses to take in IB) or as Diploma students (each student takes six courses, Theory of Knowledge, writes an Extended Essay of 4000 words, and completes a number of volunteer service tasks). Students not living in Richmond High’s catchment area must complete a transfer form.

For information about the IB Program talk to your counsellor or contact the Program Director, Remi Vicente, at Richmond Secondary (668-6400), e-mail: rvicente@richmond.sd38.bc.ca.
