Admission of Students - General Information
22303_65702_13.pngUnder the new Richmond student admission policy, students who reside within the province of BC are eligible to attend a Richmond school, providing they meet the requirements of district Regulation 501.8-R and current provincial legislation.  The School Act requires school boards to provide an educational program free of charge to any person of school age who is ordinarily resident in British Columbia, and whose parent or legal guardian is ordinarily resident in British Columbia.

Under the School Act, school boards are now required to establish school catchment areas which define the geographical area and boundaries of a school to which a student has first priority to attend.

For new and late returning students who will not be in attendance at their school by 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 should read the Registration Dates and procedures.

The admission of students to Richmond schools involves the three following types of situations:

REGISTERING a student at their catchment school

PLACING a student at a nearby school when the student cannot be accommodated at their catchment school due to lack of sufficient space, resources or facilities.

TRANSFERRING a student to a non-catchment
