Emergency School Closures

General Information

During an emergency, the districts first priority is to ensure student and staff safety. We work closely with local municipalities and emergency services to assess the situation, gather accurate information and implement emergency safety protocols.

Because no two instances are identical, emergency plans must anticipate situations and conditions that differ from building to building.  Emergency drills take place throughout the school year to ensure that staff and students are able to respond accordingly in a variety of situations.

We will communicate to parents as soon as possible using a variety of methods including, when possible,  phone, text, social media and school and district websites.

Inclement Weather

The district will try to determine school closures due to inclement weather by 6:30 a.m.

If schools are open, and you wish to keep your child home due to weather conditions, you may do so. Please let your school know of this decision.

Parents/guardians are responsible for their child's safe travel to school. If possible, we encourage parents to walk their children to school in poor weather conditions.

Individual school closures due to unique circumstances (e.g., power outage) will be announced as early as possible in the same manner. If snowfall begins while school are in session, in most circumstances, the schools will remain OPEN until the usual end of the school day.

No radio or television announcement will be made saying that schools are open.  Only school closures will be announced by the media.
